Living with a disability does not define a person — but it can bring daily challenges that many people never see. For many participants and families, the hardest part isn’t the disability itself, but the barriers created by society, systems, and attitudes.
People with disabilities may experience:
difficulty accessing suitable housing, transport, or public spaces
long wait times for services and assessments
feeling unheard or dismissed when expressing needs
juggling multiple appointments and support providers
financial pressure and confusing funding systems
isolation or loss of social connection
stigma, assumptions, or being underestimated
fatigue from constantly advocating for themselves
On top of this, many people are trying to manage pain, sensory overload, communication challenges, or mental health impacts, while still studying, working, parenting, and living their lives.
At Anchor Support Group, we recognise that these challenges are real, and that nobody should have to face them alone.
Our role is not just to provide support shifts. Our role is to anchor people through:
consistent, reliable care
respect and dignity in every interaction
clear communication
support that fits the person, not the other way around
help navigating systems like the NDIS
building confidence and independence at each person’s pace
We believe every person deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported, not rushed, judged, or made to feel like a burden.
If you or someone you care for is feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or unsure where to turn next, we’re here to listen.
